About the Role

Acoustic Systems Engineer will design, develop and tune new audio systems into cars.  The role will leverage Harman's brand and technology leadership in order to create the best automotive audio systems in the world.


What You Will Do

  • Design and tune audio systems for the automotive environment.
  • Investigate new audio related technologies and best practices.
  • Research and create novel solutions to issues in acoustic systems for the automotive environment.
  • Develop and document worldwide acoustic systems tools and best practices.
  • Problem solving during development period together with relevant stakeholders to smooth work road.
  • Acoustic systems leader for OEM customers.

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Acoustics is required. Master’s Degree in Engineering preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in an audio related field is required; 7+ years of experience is strongly preferred.
  • Specific experience required in 3 or more of the following fields:  acoustical engineering, transducer engineering, digital signal processing, amplifier engineering, vehicle sound packaging engineering, psycho-acoustics and recording arts.
  • Knowledge of Matlab, C, C++, algorithm development and programming is preferred.
  • Detailed knowledge of acoustic theory, sound reproduction and sound system tuning is strongly preferred.

  • Passion for acoustics and/or sound recording/reproduction
  • Musical background (performing, teaching, producing, hobby, enjoy concerts, etc)
  • Flexibility in a challenging and very rewarding work environment

What Makes You Eligible

  • Be willing to travel up to 50%, domestic and international travel
  • Be willing to work in an office in Nagoya or Tokyo or Ota, JP.
  • Successfully complete a background investigation/Aptitude Test as a condition of employment.
  • Driver’s license.

This position requires the use of a HARMAN or customer-owned vehicle.  As such, any offer of employment will be contingent upon having a clean driving record, which will be evaluated and determined in HARMAN’s sole discretion, no more than 4 active points for moving violations (issued by any motor vehicle agency), and no references to operating a vehicle under the influence of controlled substances within the last 10 years.
