About the Role
This role is crucial and vital for HARMAN’s new and future supplier development to meet the needs Harman, our customers and automotive industry have.
As a Procurement Quality Engineering (PQE) Engineer, you will be a key technical interface with direct material suppliers and their manufacturing sites on proactive activities in the areas of process development, process set up and release.
In some cases, you will be working with non-automotive suppliers, and you will have to ensure that the supply base is built up gradually (within a certain time frame) to develops its systems and performance to meet IATF 16949 requirements and works on a plan to acquire IATF 16949 certification (if needed)
Your Team
You will have no direct reports and you will be working within our Procurement Quality Engineering team
What You Will Do
- Evaluate potential suppliers’ technical capabilities against defined criteria using the available tools such as VDA6.3 Audits to ensure selection of partners who can meet the Company’s business requirements as part of the formal sourcing process.
- Carry out new supplier on site validation audits, with supplier support and supplier Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
- Develop mitigation plans to address gaps and risks found during supplier audit and manage resolution of those plans (including on-site support, where needed) to ensure launch readiness and successful routine production.
- Evaluate and ensure alignment between Company and supplier specifications to avoid future deviations and supply issues.
- Drive improvements in supplier capabilities while collaborating with Procurement, Best Cost Analytics, Supplier Quality Engineering and other Company stakeholders.
- Execute Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) with new suppliers, from supplier selection to first component start of production and safe launch.
- Own and lead the roll out of Global Quality tools/processes/documentation within the site/supply base including providing any training where required.
- New technology and new product launch working with suppliers to ensure that key milestones are achieved.
- Work with Procurement, BCA, SQE, SCRM and Engineering team to define process parameters and criteria to ensure supplier process capability is effective to meet product and process requirements.
- Keep up with current and developing manufacturing and engineering trends that concern product quality.
- You will be responsible to prepare for the VSM audit / activity at the supplier in advance and ensure all relevant information including cost breakdowns, process flow chart, PFMEAs, Control Plans, Inspection criteria etc are available before the visit to the suppliers.
- You will be responsible to ensure the supplier mapping is conducted and performed as per annual targets.
- You will also be responsible to ensure that after supplier mapping, you will work with internal and external stake holders to work out the future state mapping and apply all necessary and required improvements to achieve best in class process and procedures.
- Together with Procurement team you will work closely with the supplier(s) leadership team to ensure that actions are taken to eliminate highlighted waste from the processes to bring QCD benefits to Harman.
- Responsible to develop Lessons Learned and Best Practices in the commodity and deploy the knowledge through SQE organization.
- Drive Supplier Quality Improvement Plan (SQIP) for underperforming suppliers according HARMAN’s Quality Management System.
What You Need
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering / graduated engineer in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electronics, Quality or Chemistry.
- Minimum 5 years of working experience in quality and/or manufacturing processes.
- 3 years’ Experience in automotive industry.
- Strong experience in quality problem solving.
- Expertise of supplier development, qualification, manufacturing, and test processes of the suppliers
- Proven experience and knowledge in Quilty core tools and standards, like IATF, VDA, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, etc.
- Proven ability to lead and achieve on-quality, on-cost, and on-time commitments.
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Success in collaborating with key work partners and able to maintain relationships at the working level.
- An effective team player committed to organizational goals, fostering collaboration among team members.
- Ability in communication across cultures.
- Lean Manufacturing Training.
What is Nice to Have
- SAP, MSOffice Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, etc.)
- Experience in auditing suppliers for conformance to quality standards (ISO9001, IATF16949, VDA 6.3).
- Prior experience in Lean Manufacturing or Value Stream Mapping
