What You Will Do
AME Materials Engineering Manager has responsibility for the Americas materials-related testing and projects for the Harman Lifestyle division. This position will also have significant interaction with other global Materials Engineering personnel within Harman’s Lifestyle division. The nature of this role requires the jobholder to be a confident self-starter, organized, that enjoys challenging situations and has the persistence to see a task through to conclusion.
• Set up test request priorities and liaise with Materials Lab Engineer/Technician to ensure that tests are completed within a timely manner.
• Complete test requests using the available laboratory test equipment. These tests will also comply with international test standards and internal laboratory work instructions.
• Identify and order external laboratory tests when internal capability does not exist.
• Identify the optimum materials for specific new product applications.
• Identify and analyze material cost saving opportunities in current or pending products.
• Identify and recommend significant material advancements for product applications.
• Participate as part of the material science consultant team for local applications.
• Define, promote and lead material related projects, tracking project timing, costs, and results.
• Participate in component problem analysis and resolution when requested.
• Technical writing of materials specifications, test work instructions and test reports.

• Remain up to date with both current and relevant material technology and the latest material processing techniques.
• Work with cross-functional teams to introduce improved product and processes designs.
• Work with the Global Sr. Manager of Materials to standardize product and processes on a global basis.
• Work with Materials Lab Engineer/Technician to ensure that the laboratory equipment is kept in good working order and calibrated. Maintain good sample tracking and good housekeeping standards.
• Work with materials suppliers to develop new materials and then properly specify these materials.
• Participates and provides support related with quality and EHSS systems management, objectives, targets and programs.
• Ensure compliance with Company standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, ISO 45001, safety, and complete and on-time delivery at the lowest possible cost.
What You Need
• Advanced/Master’s degree
• Automotive or electronics industry experience
• Experience in industrialization and/or production of automotive electronic/acoustic products
• Excellent skills in MS Office, MS Project and SAP
• Fundamental knowledge in terms of methodologies in project management especially to planning and controlling. PMI certification or desire preferred.
