About the Role

You will be responsible for requirements engineering aspects of the overall development process for our connectivity projects and products. This position requires a broad background in development processes for automotive systems, as well as at least a basic understanding of the product functionalities and features. Your main focus is on the content of the related requirement specifications on different levels which includes stakeholder requirements, system requirements. This requires a comprehensive understanding of the requirements management guidelines and the corresponding needs. In your position you will closely collaborate with technical experts (architects, domain experts, functional owners, etc.) with respect to the requirements specification content. Therefore you should have excellent communication skills and be able to provide technical leadership, evaluate tradeoffs, resolve issues and work proactively towards the process goals. It’s essential for you to communicate effectively and to provide your work products on a high quality level.

Your Team

The (Sr). Requirements Engineer will report to the System Engineering Director and will typically be assigned to multiple projects. This position does not have any direct reports. It’s expected to lead assigned team members through the matrix organization.

What You Will Do

  • Ownership of system requirements specifications for assigned programs (awarded programs and/or RFIs/RFQs):
    • Analyze the stakeholder requirements (incl. relevant regulations, standards and norms) to capture clearly and concisely what is required for the project or product
    • Drive the definition and grooming of system requirements specs incl. writing high-quality requirements
    • Closely collaborate with technical experts with respect to the requirements specifications content (requirement content / scope / meaning / correctness / completeness, attribute content / correctness, linkage correctness / completeness)
    • Initiate, conduct and support reviews of requirements specs
    • Drive the reuse of requirements specs in order to support the identification of synergies and opportunities for spec & design reuse
    • Manage requirements baselines for the project or product
    • Monitor requirements and traceability metrics in order to meet the corresponding targets (aka. Process KPIs)
  • Stakeholder Management:
    • Focal point for requirements engineering topics for assigned program(s)/domain(s)
    • Maintain an organized repository of both, customer and 3rd party requirements specifications.
    • Support analysis, clarification, alignment and consolidation of stakeholder requirements
  • Change Request Management:
    • Support impact analysis and clarification of change requests
    • Consolidation of change requests with existing requirements
  • Requirements Open Issues Management:
    • Identify and track issues that arise from requirements development and downstream activities
    • Triage issues based on severity and urgency
    • Collaborate with Functional Owners, Subject Matter Experts, Architects and other stakeholders to drive resolution of open issues related to requirements engineering & management
  • Process/Tools:
    • Master the usage of the Harman standard tools for requirements management and support stakeholders in their appropriate and effective usage
    • Ensure compliance to ASPICE level 3
    • Identify opportunities and make recommendations for improvements of tools and processes
    • Develop requirements engineering strategy and traceability concept for assigned program(s)/domain(s) in compliance with ASPICE

What You Need to Be Successful

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of working experience within requirements management and requirements engineering
  • 5+ years experience with requirements management tools like DOORS and/or DNG
  • Basic understanding of automotive systems and their functionalities and features
  • Profound knowledge of requirements engineering principles
  • Comprehensive knowledge of requirements management process
  • Basic understanding of RFI/RFQ process
  • Excellent communication and moderation skills
  • Excellent English communication skills, both, written and verbal
  • Knowledge of process frameworks, e.g. Automotive SPICE®

Bonus Points if You Have

  • Qualification for requirements engineers, e.g. “IREB Certified Professional for Requirements Engineering”
  • Knowledge about configuration management rules and tools
