About the Role

The System Engineer is a critical role for the SBU Connectivity Telematics project teams. This role will be responsible for overall system performance, analyzing technical issues and ensuring swift resolution, defining analysis strategies and best practices, optimizing ticket flows, and driving cross-domain ticket resolution when necessary. As an End-to-End Engineer, will be responsible for identifying technical gaps, providing technical support, coaching, and defining end-to-end testing procedures and best practices at the developer level for the customers in region Japan.


What You Will Do

  • Analyze customer and internal requirements and specifications and understand product HW design documents such as block diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, logic, and timing diagrams, etc.
  • Analyze and understand product SW design documents such as block diagrams, SW architecture and topology diagrams, timing and sequence diagrams, use-case charts, and detailed component specifications.
  • Focus on system performance and optimization throughout test and development cycles.
  • Coordinate with test teams to ensure design and requirements are verified and validated.
  • Lead Root Cause / Corrective Action process with product teams for issues that arise during development and test.
  • Collaborating with functional owners, software architects, and test managers to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Identifying gaps in the test strategy and gaps in the test strategy, and effectively communicating them to the functional owner for prompt resolution.
  • Participating in integration and customer workshops to guarantee successful project delivery.
  • Interface with Customers to be a key technical presence for project teams.
  • Use hardware instruments for troubleshooting including oscilloscope, programmable power meter, logic analyzer, debuggers etc.
  • Communicate with peers inside the Harman groups. This includes occasional travel for training or coordination with other groups.

What You Need

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of system engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of software development processes, embedded systems.
  • Working knowledge of automotive connectivity / telematics systems and features
  • Strong Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action experience.
  • Proven track record in technical problem-solving, with experience leading the way.
  • Familiarity with automotive ECUs and a willingness to learn about end-to-end features for validation and testing purposes.
  • Ability to quickly understand complex systems (like or similar to automotive systems).
  • Knowledge of scripting.
  • Familiarity with Git/Gerrit/Bitbucket.
  • Fluent Japanese / Business English

What is Nice to Have

  • Experience developing and debugging software in a real-time, embedded, multiprocessor, multi-interface environment.
  • Working knowledge of Embedded Linux and/or Android OS.
  • Working knowledge of audio/video codecs and processing routines.
  • Working knowledge of User Device connectivity protocols such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi-direct, NFC, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Vector-CAN architecture and layering.
  • Working knowledge of thermal/mechanical/reliability design concerns and test considerations.
