About the Role

We are looking for customer focused Technical Program Manager,  who can break down complex problems into manageable tasks, are highly empathetic to both customer and consumer needs, and who has the business acumen to monitor market dynamics and technology trends.  Someone who is excited to help and influence in development of products and services that will define the future of the automotive industry.

As a Sr. Technical Program Manager, you will support in evangelizing the product roadmap to the respective customer account and business development teams through technical discussions, POCs, and program management.  In this role, you will be responsible for organizing and executing product development tasks of managing project milestones and deliverables.  In addition this role will support business activities such as product strategy session, battleplans and customer PoCs and marketing events. You will work in a cross-functional role planning, communicating, team building, and executing a development plan to Harman and customer requirements.

What You Will Do

  • Manage multiple highly visible projects, requiring both applications and international development engineering. 
  • Understand customer needs and communicate those into the product roadmap as part of product strategy sessions with the broader team.
  • Support the team bidding for new business pursuits globally and support RFx activities led by RFQ lead as needed for Japan region specific customers.
  • Define tasks to be performed by a cross-functional team in delivering portfolio products across various internal/external projects. Use a task list to create a work breakdown structure.  Use work breakdown structure to establish program schedule.
  • Follow corporate product development PLM process. Ensure the compliance and best practices as aligned with BMS and PLM100.
  • Ensure prompt decision-making is executed by promoting consensus decisions, intervening and escalating when consensus decision-making fails.
  • Sufficient understanding of the products to engage with customers in technical conversations and drive acceptance/awareness of the products.
  • Establish and manage program and project budgets as assigned.
  • Provide progress, status updates, and issues of technical projects and programs in OKRs, MSR, QBR activities.
  • Set team goals for the timeliness, customer issues, and quality. Lead team to meet goals.
  • Interact with all internal functions: design engineering, manufacturing, and quality, purchasing, marketing, and sales.
  • Facilitate and coordinate meetings, tech reviews, workshops, demos and reflection sessions as required.
  • Negotiate resource allocations from functional managers. When a resource conflict occurs, negotiate a solution with functional managers and other program managers.
  • Serve as lead interface with the customers including early engagements as needed.
  • Identify program issues as early as possible and drive resolution at the team level.  If resolutions require management intervention, escalate to appropriate management personnel with proposed alternatives.
  • Review selected suppliers and quotes, and participate in supplier reviews/selection as appropriate.
  • Coordinate and oversee the ordering of tooling related to assigned projects.
  • Audit task completion and report major deviations from plan to appropriate management.
  • Recommend continuous improvements development process.

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field and 16 years of overall experience
  • Automotive experience and JPN OEM customers experience preferred
  • 8+ years related experience in program management, sales, quality, design, engineering management, process engineering, or manufacturing engineering
  • Equivalent relevant industry experience will be considered
  • Project Planning, problem-solving, multi-tasking, project management skills
  • Background in Automotive Electronics is preferred.

What is Nice to Have

  • PMP certification
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or MBA with 12 years overall experience
  • Experience with Automotive Telematics/Connectivity products/projects
