About the Role
The Value Management (VM) Team needs to increase the competitiveness and profitability of the HARMAN Automotive products and solutions by implementing Value Management Methodologies like Cost Analysis and Optimization, Design to Value, Modularization and Standardization, Supplier Productivity improvements, Target Costing and support the Project management, R&D, Procurement and Quality. The Value Management Hardware Engineer’s main responsibility is to identify these opportunities that results in product cost, feature or function improvements by using the Value Management Methodologies, which focus on existing product portfolios and new designs (RFQ’s), or improving product margins, while maintaining product integrity and quality.
What You Will Do
- Analyze product designs for cost improvement in cooperation with the appropriate engineering disciplines and technicians in alignment with customer and federal regulations and specifications.
- Identify cost down opportunities concerning Hardware in Automotive products by using Value Management tools and methods during RFQ, Pre-SOP and Post-SOP.
- Analyze customer specifications described in RFI/RFQs or customer assignments.
- Define and review best-cost functional blocks for global HW platform and products in Intelligent Cockpit.
- Participate cross-functional-Teams for identifying cost opportunities
- Support VM workshops, compile ideas and drive the generic feasibility for Hardware opportunities
- Works and participates in a product team environment, supporting other team functions: software, mechanical, process, test, and quality engineering.
- Support Benchmarking activities and teardown analysis.
- Analyze competitor solutions from the Hardware perspective for different product groups esp. Infotainment systems.
- Cross-functional cooperation with other departments (e.g. Mechanics, Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality, etc.) in an international environment
- Evaluate the feasibility and cost savings impact of ideas through cost estimating, technical and manufacturing feasibility assessments
- Workshops with HW Experts for cost optimized designs (e.g. LGA, SOC, Memory, Tuner, Ethernet etc.)
- Investigate new components, substitutes, and technologies that reduce overall costs while maintaining or improving quality.
- Provide VM cost savings ideas and component expertise to assist in closing target price gaps for business quotes.
- Cost Estimations of electronic and purchased parts
What You Need
- Bachelor's Degree in Hardware Engineering, or a related discipline. A Master's Degree is preferred.
- 5+ years of hardware design experience in the field of automotive electronics engineering.
- Master use and hands-on experience with CAE design tool preferred Mentor/EDM.
- Expertise in hardware development of automotive electronic products, and multimedia product experience is highly preferred.
- Consolidated knowledge of hardware components, application in electronic circuits and properties
- Experience in EMC design and/or measurement
- Expertise in PCB technology and layer-stack definition would be of advantage
- In-Depth understanding of the automotive product design and development process
- Experience with the automotive OEM vehicle development process for OEMs
- Experience using MS Office s/w, especially Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience interfacing with customers and explain complex technical issues in English
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and the ability to clearly communicate complex issues regardless of audience.
