About the Role

In this position, you will support the design of loudspeakers for new and existing Japanese customer programs and work with the global engineering development team to maintain the commonality of loudspeaker designs across multiple customers.

Your Team

This position will have direct report to manager of SPK SME-Japan team who is technical interface with all J-OEM’s.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and support transducer development on assigned New Product Development projects, through the design team in Suzhou, China or in Novi, MI.
  • Be the main customer interface, and technical expert for transducer related issues.
  • Focus on cost, efficiency, reliability, and continuous improvement as part of the loudspeaker development.
  • Lead and support the global Transducer engineering team to design and validate speakers to meet or exceed customer requirements.
  • Lead and support and in some instances lead transducer design-related problem-solving on a multitude of programs and projects.
  • Provide technical support on acoustic performance, measurements, durability, and cost at design and feasibility reviews.
  • Support and review all relevant documentation such as Bills of Material, both Harman and customer drawings, Simulation data, DFMEA/DRBFM, DVP&R, and all other documentation required to support the development process and customer requirements.
  • Actively participate in the development of loudspeaker designs about all external and internal requirements during the RFQ / RFI stage.
  • Lead and support the transducer development team during the interaction with the customer on transducer-related topics.
  • Analysis of technical specifications and lead technical negotiations with customer.
  • Use, maintain, and improve upon Best Practices and Design Standards in the knowledge Management system via the Lessons Learned process.
  • Verify Projects Systems database with accurate Transducer information for multiple projects.

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent
  • 5-10 years minimum post-graduation experience in the field of transducer design.
  • Ability to summarize complex situations and communicate effectively internally and externally.
  • Experience to work on J-OEM program, 3+ years of experience being familiar with J-OEM’s development processes.
  • Technical Project management skills
  • Additional experience may be substituted for education and vice-versa.
  • Fluent Japanese
  • Working Knowledge of:
    • COMSOL, Magnet, or other transducer modeling Experience
    • DFMEA (Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis) and/or DRBFM
    • Problem-Solving Methodologies (8-D, PHASE-5 test reporting, Fault Tree Analysis, Fish Bone Analysis, etc)
    • Automotive component integration

What is Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with Klippel and transducer measurement systems
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) training
  • GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance)
  • Automotive requirements and procedures (APQP / PPAP / DVP)
  • Experience working with PLM and PDM systems
  • Experience working with automotive OEM Audio Engineering
  • Customer/supplier negotiations and interfaces (Working experience with Honda is highly preferred)
  • New product launches and quality support
  • Experience working with global teams
  • Fluent in customer’s language and familiar with customer culture
  • English and/or Chinese language/communication skills
