Principal Applications Engineer – PRO Audio

The Principal Applications Engineer is a regarded as business unit & industry recognised expert with in-depth knowledge of Professional Audio products & technology within the market and in particular the Harman JBL, BSS, Crown and other associated brands. They maintain in depth knowledge and understand at the highest technical level the application of these products into a solution and their integration with complimentary products for real world application. They function as part of the team responsible for developing and maintaining close relationships with key customers and industry experts throughout the EMEA region and as the technical face of Harman work on creating new business opportunities and providing pre-sales support. They are the technical lead on the concept, design and implementation of technical solutions for the Installed Audio market.

What You Will Do:

• To provide expertise to Harman's customer base on product use and applications. As the principal you take the lead on the concept, design and implementation of technical solutions for the Installed Audio market.
• You are an internal mentor and consultant to other applications and sales team members on technical expertise to support sales.
• Develop and execute an ongoing program of customer visits, ensuring close relationships between Harman and these relationship-driven customers.  Key elements include pre- and post-sale support (with a focus on projects and large systems), training, education on Harman products, and supporting technologies.
• Serve as competitive products/systems expert, providing organizational insight into competitive products and their positioning.
• Support the development and delivery training materials and technical resources for use in presentations, meetings, training sessions.
• Act as a technical lead when working with other applications engineers in the EMEA region to provide high quality support for audio products within the EMEA markets, in providing guidance, supporting growth of skills in others and using experience to proactively identify technical and process issues that may affect the success of the team.
• In case of quality/technical issues or customer complaints, which cannot be solved in day-to-day business, the application engineering team assist in identifying and analyzing the problem systematically and work with brand/technical product teams and engineering to ensure a satisfactory solution is reached.
• This role requires extensive communication skills within the company and with customers. Must be able to confidently present our products in front of highly technical engineers, rental company owners. Distributors and their staff.
• Must communicate technical problems back to brands in a timely and concise way. Must also be ready to defend the company’s technical position regarding product failures and assist in remedying any field action needed.
• Work with Sales leaders and distributors to identify and develop new opportunities for audio in the various vertical markets.
• Act as technical lead for Installed audio in directly dealing with or advising others on appropriately working to find resolutions to problems where technical product issues need solving with urgency, possibly in circumstances where the products are challenged, and customers need the highest level of support.

What You Need:

• At least 12 years extensive technical experience in installed audio and wider professional audio industry.
• Specific technical experience with the JBL and BSS brand and products.
• Demonstrably strong problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrably strong communication and presentation skills and the ability to adapt to different audiences (internal/external, technical/ less technical, senior stakeholders).
• Demonstrable skills in technical and project management leadership.
• To be proactive, creative and collaborative in their approach to teamwork, change management and decision making.
• Good commercial acumen, understanding commercial decisions and sales process.

What is Nice to Have:

• Experience of other parts of the Audi/Visual industry.
• Mentoring and experience developing others.
• Speak additional European languages.

What Makes You Eligible:

• Fluency in English, speaking/reading/writing.
• Be willing to travel up to 50% domestic and international travel.
• This role is eligible to work remotely full-time with occasional trips into the Hemel Hempstead office location required (this could be on 24-hour notice).
• Has the right to live and work in the United Kingdom.
