Introduction: A Career at HARMAN Automotive

We’re a global, multi-disciplinary team that’s putting the innovative power of technology to work and transforming tomorrow. At HARMAN Automotive, we give you the keys to fast-track your career.

  • Engineer audio systems and integrated technology platforms that augment the driving experience

  • Combine ingenuity, in-depth research, and a spirit of collaboration with design and engineering excellence

  • Advance in-vehicle infotainment, safety, efficiency, and enjoyment

About the Role

As a Software Engineer in the Reporting, Statistics and Automation (RSA) team, you will play a key role in designing and developing software solutions that enhance data reporting, statistical analysis, and process automation. Your responsibilities will span the full software development lifecycle—from prototyping and writing functional code to testing, deployment, and maintenance.

This role will leverage your expertise in programming languages, databases, and data visualisation tools to build scalable and efficient systems. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support various stages of development, ensuring that solutions align with business needs and technical standards.

In addition, you will contribute to the thoughtful and responsible use of AI technologies, assessing when and how AI can be applied to improve the automation of reporting workflows, enhance data quality and insight generation, and streamline processes both within the team and across the organization.

You will report directly to the RSA Manager, contributing to initiatives that improve reporting accuracy, automate repetitive tasks, and optimize data workflows across the organization.

What You Will Do

  • Design and optimize logical and physical data models to support scalable and efficient data management, reporting, and analytics solutions

  • Analyze the current data landscape and identify opportunities to modernize data architecture, streamline data flows, eliminate inefficiencies, and establish scalable best practices

  • Build and maintain robust data pipelines and automation solutions that support efficient data collection, transformation, integration, and delivery across multiple business functions

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Operations, Project Management, and Data Analytics, to understand data requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions

  • Establish and promote standards for database design, data governance, data quality, documentation, and lifecycle management to ensure long-term sustainability of the data ecosystem

  • Monitor and optimize database performance, query efficiency, and data processing workflows to support growing business and reporting needs.

  • Assess and apply AI-driven solutions to enhance data quality, anomaly detection, reporting automation, and operational efficiency

What You Need to Be Successful

  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in Data Engineering, Database Engineering, Data Architecture, or similar roles, with proven experience working in production environments.

  • Strong expertise in SQL and relational database design, including data modeling, normalization, schema design, performance optimization, and query tuning.

  • Hands-on experience with Python for data processing, automation, and system integration.

  • Proven experience designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable data architectures that support enterprise reporting, analytics, and operational processes.

  • Solid understanding of ETL processes, data lifecycle management, and data governance principles.

  • Experience working with reporting and visualization platforms (e.g., Qlik, Power BI) and understanding how data architecture impacts reporting performance and usability.

  • Ability to evaluate existing data architectures, identify improvement opportunities, and drive technical recommendations that balance business needs, scalability, and maintainability.

  • A collaborative mindset and intellectual curiosity to work effectively with Engineering, Project Management, Operations, and Analytics teams.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, ownership mentality, and a proactive approach to tackling technical challenges and driving continuous improvement.

  • Ability to evaluate AI capabilities and limitations and make informed decisions regarding the use of AI technologies to improve data quality, automation, analytics, and operational efficiency.

Bonus Points if You Have

  • A degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.

  • Certifications in data engineering and automation.

  • Experience collaborating with international teams or across multiple business units.

  • Hands-on experience with reporting lifecycle management systems or ETL tools.

  • Experience experimenting with or integrating AI-assisted tools (e.g., for data analysis, automation, documentation, or decision support) in a professional or enterprise context.

What Makes You Eligible

  • You are fluent in English and capable of communicating complex technical ideas to diverse audiences.

  • You are based in or near Bucharest, with the ability to work in a hybrid or remote setup.

  • You are open to occasional travel for strategic workshops, stakeholder meetings, or cross-functional collaboration.

  • You are flexible with working hours to support global reporting cycles and high-priority initiatives.

What We Offer

  • Flexible work environment, allowing for full-time remote work globally for positions that can be performed outside a HARMAN or customer location

  • Access to employee discounts on world-class products (JBL, HARMAN Kardon, AKG, and more)

  • Extensive training opportunities through our own HARMAN University

  • Competitive wellness benefits

  • Tuition reimbursement

  • “Be Brilliant” employee recognition and rewards program

  • An inclusive and diverse work environment that fosters and encourages professional and personal development
