Description & Requirements
Introduction: A Career at HARMAN Automotive
We are a global, multi-disciplinary team that’s putting the innovative power of technology to work and transforming tomorrow. At HARMAN Automotive, we give you the keys to fast-track your career.
- Engineer audio systems and integrated technology platforms that augment the driving experience
- Combine ingenuity, in-depth research, and a spirit of collaboration with design and engineering excellence
- Advance in-vehicle infotainment, safety, efficiency, and enjoyment
About the Role
As a Junior Hardware Engineer within the BU‑IC (Intelligent Cockpit) organization, you will support the development of automotive hardware platforms with a strong focus on audio amplifier systems used in modern In‑Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) and domain‑based cockpit architectures.
In this role, you will contribute to the design, bring‑up, verification, and integration of audio amplifier hardware (covering different amplifier classes such as Class AB / Class D) and A2B (Automotive Audio Bus) based audio networking solutions. You will work closely with experienced hardware engineers, system architects, software, validation, and manufacturing teams in a global environment, gaining hands‑on experience across the full hardware development lifecycle.
What You Will Do
Hardware Design & Development
- Schematic design and maintenance of audio amplifier hardware functional blocks (power supply, audio power stages, interfaces, diagnostics, protection circuits) under guidance of senior engineers.
- Component selection, BOM creation/maintenance, and design documentation according to automotive requirements.
- Hardware bring‑up activities for new designs and variants.
Audio Amplifier & A2B Integration
- Development and integration of audio amplifier solutions using different amplifier classes (e.g. Class AB / Class D).
- A2B (Automotive Audio Bus) network bring‑up, configuration checks, and basic debugging in cooperation with hardware and software teams.
- Troubleshooting of audio and control interfaces (A2B, I2C, basic audio interfaces).
Verification, Test & Debug
- Perform bench‑level hardware validation (functional checks, basic audio measurements, power behavior, diagnostics).
- Support EMC, thermal, and robustness testing activities by preparing setups, executing measurements, and documenting results.
- Root‑cause analysis of hardware issues together with senior engineers.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with system, software, validation, mechanical, and manufacturing teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Participate in design reviews, implement review feedback, and contribute to continuous improvement of hardware solutions.
What You Need to Be Successful
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a comparable technical field.
- First practical experience (including internships, thesis, or student projects) in electronics design, test, or validation.
- Basic understanding of:
- Analog and digital electronics
- Audio amplifier fundamentals
- A2B fundamentals
- Power supply concepts
- Hands‑on experience with laboratory equipment (oscilloscope, multimeter, basic signal generation).
- Basic experience with schematic capture tools (e.g. Mentor, Altium, or similar).
- Good command of spoken and written English.
Bonus Points if You Have
- Exposure to Class D audio amplifier concepts and layout/EMI awareness.
- Initial experience or academic exposure to A2B (Automotive Audio Bus) or other automotive audio networking technologies.
- Basic understanding of automotive development constraints (quality, EMC, documentation, traceability).
- Awareness of automotive communication interfaces (CAN, LIN, Ethernet) is a plus.
What Makes You Eligible
- Willingness to work in a global, cross‑functional environment.
- Willingness to work in a hybrid office setup according to local BU‑IC policies.
- You are willing to travel, if necessary.
- Key Competencies:
Collaboration
- Results‑driven mindset
Learning agility and openness to feedback
Structured and quality‑oriented working style
