About the Role

The position owner is part of the department Global Strategic Procurement & Partnering, Automotive Sourcing, and the centralized advocate of the Supply Chain Management Organization (SCM) towards Harman business unit Connectivity.

Within this role, the owner is responsible for all aspects related to SCM and therefore the partner for Engineering, Quality, Program Management (CPM), Sales (CBU) and Finance within Harman Automotive.

The position reports into the Director Automotive Sourcing SBU Connectivity, located in Garching, Germany.  


What You Will Do

  • Ambassador of the supply chain management organization towards all relevant functions of the HARMAN organization (Engineering, Quality, Program management, Sales and Finance)
  • Automotive Sourcing participates in cross function RFI and RFQ teams and is responsible for to provide full optimized costed TVC (total variable costs) on new platform products for the SBU Connectivity.
  • Lead cost reduction workshops and design-to-cost initiatives during the new product development process.
  • Cost Optimization events, led by Automotive Sourcing, focused on reduction of cost as well as optional component selection.
  • During the design phase of the product sourcing process, customer requirements and engineering specifications provide the inputs required for development of the advanced sourcing technology roadmap. The goal of these reviews is to provide costed Product BOM’s for integration into customer programs. 
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies in conjunction with engineering and category management.
  • In conjunction with the SCM, CG, and finance departments, Automotive sourcing representative drives business review with SVP Supply Chain Management for make vs Buy decisions. (Capital, capacity, EMS costing, supplier delivery and performance, program timing, and business case impact are critical inputs in making decision).
  • Lead cross-functional teams in identification and implementation of product cost reduction opportunities through VAVE events including PCN’s and CR’s.
  • Collaborate successfully with key work partners and maintaining relationships at management level.
  • Track, monitor and drive respective actions to ensure material cost targets will be achieve during new product introduction phases.
  • Monthly reporting of KPIs

What You Need

  • Bachelor's / Master degree business administration, industrial engineer or appropriate graduation
  • 7+ years of related experience in Procurement, Strategic Sourcing, Supply Chain Management, Program Management, Product Sourcing.
  • Automotive background and strong technical affinity is a must have
  • Experience in Connectivity/Telematics sourcing desired
  • Ability to work independently, establishing priorities, setting goals and to make decisions.
  • Strong relationship building skills and proven success collaborating with key work partners and the ability to maintain relationships at the executive level.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence diverse global teams to achieve cost, quality, and time to market commitments.
  • Strong presentation and moderation skills.
  • Creative and innovative problem solver, agent for change management and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing environment.
  • Drive for results and success; convey a sense of urgency and drive issues to closure; persist despite obstacles and opposition.

  • Fluent in English and Japanese.
  • Successfully complete a background investigation/Aptitude Test as a condition of employment.
