About the Role
Harman Professional is seeking a talented, highly motivated and dynamic acoustic engineer to join our product development team. The successful candidate will have the technical depth and proven experience to create and improve electro-acoustic software tools for simulating and modeling loudspeaker system performance. Candidate will demonstrate knowledge of loudspeaker acoustic performance, Digital Signal Processing tools, physics, and mathematical concepts for computation of complex fields. The candidate will be a team player, collaborate with engineering teams, and have a strong sense of responsibility and commitment towards producing advanced and stable software for the engineering group. Assignments are broad in nature, requiring appreciable initiative, originality, ingenuity, and strong problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate will have excellent analysis skills, advanced acoustic engineering experience and good understanding of professional loudspeaker systems. What You Will Do
- Architect, define and develop software tools for processing and visualizing electroacoustic data and analysis.
- Create new tools to optimize loudspeaker design and audio system performance.
- Research new technologies and algorithms and perform experiments to determine potential design feasibility or application.
- Provide tools to support documentation and definition needs for state-of-the-art products.
- Direct and plan DSP algorithm development for system optimizations of directivity, noise control or system performance.
What You Need
- Master’s Degree in Acoustic Engineering, Software Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or equivalent technical degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience and 4+ years related engineering experience
- Thorough understanding of fundamental acoustic engineering principles
- Proficiency in one modern programming language such as C# or C++ including object-oriented design and other engineering tools such as Matlab and Python.
- Background in applied software engineering in teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
What is Nice to Have
- Previous experience in loudspeaker design and data analysis with advanced signal processing and control such as FIR filters, dynamic limiting schemes and line array signal processing for performance applications.
- Previous experience in Matlab, Python, Labview and other science specific software languages
- Previous experience with loudspeaker electro-acoustic software and data sets such as EASE, CATT-Acoustic, VACS, DDA and others
- Understanding and experience with optimizing sound system design, room acoustics and system tuning fundamentals with advanced DSP.

- Willingness to travel to other Harman locations in the US and internationally.

Dependent on the position offered, other forms of compensation are also available, such as bonuses or commission.
Pay is based on a wide range of factors, including, without limitation, skill set, experience, training, location, and business need. While the above range is a reasonable estimate of the wage range for this position, please note the disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographical differential associated with the location where the position may be filled.
