About the Role

Senior Manager for leading the strategy, development, and implementation of the DSP software on amplifier products to meet the goals of the organization.

What You Will Do

  • Plans and directs activities of the Android Audio software development engineering department including personnel resource allocation to the program teams.

  • Ensures on-time support for design, development and delivery activities and interfacing with sales, customers, other engineering organizations.

  • Maintains engineering staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting and training employees. Supervises engineering personnel through coaching, planning, monitoring, and appraising of job performance.

  • Participates in proposal preparation to customer requests and other sales opportunities that may arise.

  • Establishes processes for the development, integration, and release of software

  • Provides Android software Leadership to audio programs to ensure deliverables are met on time, within budget and meeting customer requirements and expectations.

  • Interfaces with customers both internal and external to ascertain customer satisfaction and takes appropriate action to ensure customer satisfaction relative to group performance.

  • Maintains engineering standards by establishing and maintaining policies on software design standards. Identifies and implements methods and practices that improve effectiveness of teamwork, and maturity of software development.

  • Works with Architects to conceptualize multiple use cases to design a single system to suit many uses.

  • Lead the team that integrates DSP algorithms with an audio framework, control software and tuning structure and extend the framework as necessary

  • Supervise and review contributions from the development team.

  • Provide estimates of group programming effort to size the scope of projects.

    • Establish and coordinate activities with third party developers and contractors.

    • Communicate with peers inside the HARMAN group to coordinate software development. This includes occasional travel for training or coordination with other groups

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering

  • 18+ years of experience in Embedded/DSP software development and 5+ years of experience in leading teams

  • Shall have knowledge of software development principals and practices as applicable to DSP software development, ability to develop and present technical data, resolve internal and external conflicts, negotiate and resolve customer issues, communicate and motivate employees, conduct employee reviews and hire talented employees.

  • Good understanding of Embedded Software systems

  • Good understanding of Android Audio

  • Deep knowledge of filtering, speech processing, noise control and telecommunications algorithms in both time and frequency domains.

  • Strong understanding of DSP frameworks and how individual DSP algorithms interface and interact with each other, the control software and tool interfaces in an optimized way.

  • Knowledge of features, strengths and weaknesses of various DSP platforms and algorithm approaches

  • Working knowledge of embedded operating systems (schedulers, memory management, driver models, RTOS concepts, etc.)

  • Experienced working with and/or leading off-shore development teams.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.

  • Leadership of projects to meet strict deadlines.

  • Self starter and self motivated.

  • Good interpersonal skills and can interface with peers and OEM customers.

  • Capable project management and time management skills.Passion for audio and music.

 

What is Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering field, Ph.D. and/or MBA

  • Experienced with software development on Analog Devices DSP/SoC devices (specifically Sharc and Griffin)

  • Excellent knowledge of object-oriented software development using C/ C++

  • Specific experience in audio/acoustical engineering, psycho-acoustics, and/or recording arts.

  • Specific experience with noise cancellation and/or sound-synthesis techniques.

  • Experience using MATLAB and Simulink

  • Experience with use of audio systems and software (DAWs, audio interfaces, audio plug-ins, speakers, microphones, etc.)
