About the Role
Harman’s Lifestyle Division is charged with energizing all of Harman’s Consumer Businesses. Harman is now looking for a Retail Store leader who can continue to leverage all of Harman’s recent marketing and product development investments and oversee our world class retail store in New York. This position will have the objective of providing customers, dealers and partners with a memorable experience that shares Harman’s heritage. The Manager will also be charged with achieving retail store sales targets and executing on key retail marketing projects.
The Retail Store Manager will have direct operational responsibility for the New York location and will be responsible for maximizing the use of retail marketing, product placement and selling strategies for retail sales growth. Through the execution of sales (profit) generation, site specific staffing and training, merchandising, expense control and loss prevention, this position is charged to maintain a world class Harman retail business. This retail business will drive significant sales growth and provide a Harman promotional and marketing experience for diverse sets of products across all Harman Divisions for our customers when they visit the Harman store.
What You Will Do
Sales & General Management:
- Ensure that a high level of customer service is given and maintained, providing world class Harman customer experience.
- Ensure the store is neat and merchandised correctly to sell according to the monthly sales plan and that all promotional and marketing plans are executed as scheduled.
- Review sales results daily and take action to correct deficiencies and maximize positive sales results. Ability to identify performance gaps, root causes and develop and implement plans to close the gaps.
- Develop a local store sales and marketing strategy to achieve financial objectives linked to sales growth, profitability and cost control.
- Adjust expenses to reflect current customer sales trends and seasonal sales trends on an on-going basis, to ensure store profitability.
Staffing and Training:
- Recruit and hire highly qualified, experienced sales associates.
- Develop and train sales associates that are very customer focused and motivated by very cool consumer electronics products.
Merchandising:
- Maintain an awareness of industry trends, directions and their relevance to customers within the German market.
- Assess and communicate to Harman management the appropriateness of current and future merchandise classifications for the German market.
- Communicate performance observations and offer direction to Harman management in areas of content and assortment, product development, presentation, and sale merchandise. Evaluate the planning and execution of marketing and promotional sale activities.
Expense Control & Loss Prevention:
- Control store payroll & overhead expenses by complying with budgets.
- Budget and monitor the store’s controllable expenses and ensure conformance with the established guidelines and objectives.
- Take appropriate action to achieve or reduce shortage goals as set by the Company.
- Plan and recommend loss prevention actions with Harman Management.
- Ensure inventories are supervised according to Company guidelines.
- Ensure that Loss Prevention training is administered on a regular basis to all associates.
What You Need to Be Successful
- Business Competence – Management experience in retail store operations. (consumer electronics industry strongly preferred) Minimum of 5-7 years of high-end retail management experience. Previously managed store(s) in large cities, urban markets. Experience in forecasting, analysis, sales, marketing & promotion related to store management.
- Management competence – Required experience in providing leadership to sales associates with an emphasis of leadership by example. Strong communication skills, teaching and coaching skills, and well-structured time management skills.
- Consumer electronics experience – Experience working with major consumer electronics or products in the retail channel.
- Associate degree in business, or related field or equivalent experience.

- Emotional Intelligence – Help in managing staff dynamics and customer interactions.
- Conflict Resolution Skills – For handling disputes among staff or with customers.
- Adaptability – Especially useful in fast-paced or seasonal retail environments.
- BS Degree or equivalent experience
